Question 6

On page 4, I asked about PT diagnosis. There was one response.

4a.For the PT diagnosis, I think it could possibly be peripheral neuropathy, and so the PT diagnosis could be, Pattern 5D: Impaired Motor Function and Sensory Integrity Associated With Nonprogressive Disorders of the Central Nervous System - Acquired in Adolescence or Adulthood. Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by many diseases, such as diabetes, lupus, underactive thyroid gland. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001619/ (Britt)

I asked for additional ideas about PT diagnosis, but none were forthcoming.

Do you all agree on the above PT diagnosis? If not, let's hear from you.

My PT diagnosis would be Pattern 5E: Impaired Motor Function and Sensory Integrity Associated With Progressive Disorders of the Central Nervous System. ICD-9 Code 340:Multiple Sclerosis. My PT diagnosis would be the same as the medical diagnosis from the signs and symptoms. I feel that I would need to refer him to a physician to confirm his diagnosis before I continued working with him because MS is a serious central nervous system disorder. With Joe being a male it make it crucial because men are more likely to get primary progressive MS (the worse kind). Once his medical diagnosis is confirmed I would work on his signs and symptoms, which could allow me to make a new PT diagnosis. (Marleigh)

I agree with Marleigh in the MS diagnosis and Preferred Practice Pattern 5E. (Amber)

I also agree with Marleigh that it could be Preferred Practice Pattern 5E with MS. This is a reasonable PT diagnosis, however, I feel that the medical diagnosis for Lyme Disease should be ruled out. Lyme disease can cause dizziness, and neurological symptoms including numbness and weakness in limbs. It can have reoccurring symptoms for years after infection if it is not treated which could account reoccurring symptoms in this patient's case. (Laura)

A patient can have more than one PT Diagnosis. Any others that would be appropriate?
